The annual Black Dog Ride is on again. T 4 Tom and I have been on 2 of these rides with our Treasurer Wayne joining us on our last trip to support this cause.
Black Dog Ride aims to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention. This year marks the 10th anniversary of when its founder Steve Andrews rode around Australia to promote awareness of this extremely important cause. Our community members, especially those affected by depression or suicide, are grateful for this show of support by others.
Funds raised will go into Black Dog Ride's community funding pool to fund mental health projects across the country.
Black Dog Ride - Victoria
The Victorian State Ride will be a 4 day journey riding with the Around Australia Riders.
The average daily distance is 500kms, with 5 rest days spread across the duration of the ride. Participants will be part of Black Dog Ride's community engagements with schools, community orgs, and local businesses.
The ride details:
Friday 2nd August - Leaving Echuca for Mt Gambier Saturday 3rd August - Leaving Mt Gambier for Ballarat Sunday 4th August - Leaving Ballarat for Lakes Entrance Monday 5th August - Leaving Lakes Entrance for Wodonga
RIP Grumpster

Tom can't make it this year as he is away travelling. Will miss him and his cooking.
Well, it looks like there will be at the least 2 Monarchs heading off for this trip so far with Lee putting up his hand to join the ride.
I am registered and ready to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention, and to have a chat with the community members that we will visit along the way.
Better go and get my Winston the Black Dog Ride mascot ready, complete with his yellow bow tie for this years trip. Better still, might knit him a yellow scarf as it will be cold.
Bring it on!

We will be leaving on Thursday the 1st of August for Echuca.
Mental Health is a problem that effects so many people and families. It is non discriminative and can effect anyone at any time. Raising awareness that "it is okay, not to be okay", shows people that there is support available and people that do care.
Sometimes we all just need somebody to talk to who will listen, and sometimes say nothing, just listen. Other times just a hug or a friendly chat can make all the difference to somebodies day.
I will put my soapbox away now.

Winstons scarf has been completed, so now he is ready for the trip.
A big thanks to Lee, Doonie, Wayne and Alan for volunteering to accompany me on this trip.
If you wish to attend please let me know and I can give you our accommodation details as we needed to book our own accommodation.
The more the merrier.

Darcy DR is packed with Winston complete with yellow scarf and Grumpy badge onboard ready to go.
What an awesome club we have with 5 Monarchs attending for the 5 day ride, and a provisional new member and his wife joining us from Healesville to Moe with the Black Dog Riders. Thanks Vincent and Rose for registering and joining us for this event.
Alan has also recruited another mate who has registered for the ride bringing our little group to 7 plus 2 day riders.
Great effort team

Thank you Lee, Wayne, Alan & Doonie for attending this event with me. It was a pleasure to spend the time with you. Thanks also to Vincent and Rose for meeting up with us at Healesville and riding to Moe with us. A crappy day for a ride, but you came anyway.
Lots of great people support this cause, and it was a pleasure to ride and spend time with them. Others I am unsure if they are attending for the meaning of the ride or their image. Sadly some of their riding attitude was dangerous to themselves and more importantly other riders attending. Oh well!!!!
