Fellow Monarchs Pete, Don and young Jack are heading off with another friend Denis for a double crossing of the Simpson unsupported. This will be a huge adventure as they have no 4WD backup and will have to carry all that they need for the majority of the trip with limited opportunities to obtain supplies.
They are leaving from Broken Hill and following the Dog Fence to Camerons Corner, Inaminka, Birdsville, Mt Dare via Rigg Road, Fink then Lambert where the geographical centre of Australia is.
Then back again following the French line.
Stay safe boys

On the first day of the trip, Pete hit and killed a sheep when it ran out from behind some low shrubs on the road following the dog fence. Pete hit it at about 90kph and was thrown over the handlebars. Luckily there was a homestead 15km back from where the accident occurred which he was taken back to.
Flight to Broken Hill Hospital with 6 broken ribs and multiple bruises and sore bits. Overall very lucky boy.
I flew up to collect him late yesterday afternoon and we drove home today with the DR650 with lots of missing or smashed bits.
The other 3 have continued on with the trip as agreed.
Ride safe all.

What rotten luck after all the planing, preparation and waiting. Recover quickly Pete and yell if I can help in some way.
I guess Pete will be a bit sheepish for a while.....🏍🐑 and looking for a Lambreta.

Young Jack and Don made it to the geographical centre of Australia today Lambert and seem to be travelling well.
Pete has been watching them via Jack's spot tracker while he recovers.
