Quest for the Pudding
Our original plan was to have the pudding for our 40th Dargo High Plains Rally. COVID-19 put a stop to that, but we are still after that pudding for our Dargo Rally.
The iconic “Pudding”.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The Off Centre Rally.
As a number of Monarchs will be trekking to the Off Centre in 2022 and the Dargo Rally follows soon after, it came to mind that we should try to get the famous Pudding for the 42nd Dargo Rally and help the RFDS at the same time. The Pudding is auctioned to the highest bidder for the privilege of transporting it to its next event, with the proceeds going to the RFDS. Many a touring or adventuring motorcyclist has required the services of the RFDS in the past. A few Off Centre participants live to tell you how good the service is, given the remote locations that are chosen.
The Off Centre is held every two years. 2022 will be at Adels Grove some 320km North of Mt Isa.
To have a chance at winning the Pudding we will need your help. The fund has been started with $100 donation but we will need lots more for our auction bid at the Off Centre Rally in August.
Regardless of success or not, all funds will be donated to the RFDS.
Our target is $2000+
If you would like to make a donation, please see President Tracey or myself (Lee). We are also looking for fund raising ideas so if you have one, please speak up.......Raffle, bbq, bank robbery…. ?
THE PUDDING STORY
The Pudding started life as a Big Sister Plum Pudding, touring around on a motorcycle back in 1975 with a couple of guys, Bear and Eric, that met up on the W.A. / S.A border. The pudding was taken for desert but was never consumed and went home only to be taken to another motorcycling event, where again it failed to be consumed. This went on for a few years and the Pudding developed into a motorcycling icon, travelling only on a motorcycle over many 100s of thousands of miles and todays Kms. In the early 2000s with many miles/kms of bouncing around in various motorcycle panniers, a decision was made to encase the Pudding in resin to preserve it further.
The Pudding is prohibited from leaving the country and must only travel by motorcycle. No cars, trucks, planes or boats. The only exception is a motorcycle break down requiring the bike to be transported……..but the Pudding MUST remain on the bike.
In recent times, past 10 or so years, the Pudding carrier, who wins an unofficial auction at a motorcycle event where it might appear, makes a donation to the RFDS, as over the years, various motorcyclists have required the assistance of the RFDS in far flung places around Australia.
We now keep track of the Pudding and donations that are made to the RFDS. Tens of thousands of dollars have already been donated before tracking began.
It appears the Pudding was last in attendance at the Dargo High Plains Rally in 2005 and it would be great if we could get it back there in 2022 for the 42nd running.
The Pudding will be auctioned as usual at the Off Centre Rally August 2022. We have a plan…….
Pudding handover....this has happened many, many times.
