It is with sadness that I hear of Mal's passing. I've known him since my beginning in the club being Mal like nobody else. The stories he told about his time at Pleasant View give me a smile to this day. His health suffered greatly in the last years but managed to give up the beer when I thought that was impossible, he took it on the chin and moved on. I will miss his rabbiting on. I fear his passing won't be the last amongst us oldies. I'm 70 now and starting to feel it. Let's all do our best to stave off the inevitable. Vale Malcolm.

Mal Cooper was a presence in any gathering of Monarchs or Motorcyclists. He had a larger than life attitude and a booming voice to match.
One incident sticks in my memory. It was probably in the early eighties. He was in a train and it was an old red rattler model. There were many doors on these old dungers and within easy reach of every seat.
Mal was reading the Green Horror, (as the Australian Motor Cycle News was known due to its many typos), and quietly minding his own business.
At the time skinheads and sharpies were infesting parts of Melbourne. A group of this gentry got on the train and demanded Mal's wallet. Without parley of any sort, Mal grabbed the first one to hand and bodily ejected him from the open door.
The rest of the group quietly retreated to the far corner and at the next station got off and presumably went back to along the tracks to see if their mate had survived.
Mal always said he wasn't worried about the consequences of his actions. He said, 'they can't do anything to me, I'm a certified lunatic!'

Great story Stu. I don't remember hearing that one.
Yeah, he was a big boy, I wouldn't have tangled with him when he was younger. I'm sorry I can't be at the funeral, but my thoughts will be with you all.
