A few of us Monarch outfit guys are departing Briagalong on Monday 17th heading to the NSW SC Rally at O'Connel near Bathurst. Hopefully I can provide a few pics and stories of our travels along the way. Doony is leading so it is bound to be an adventure......

Well PG arrived at Briag for the second time ( turned up last week......just a week too early ). The next hour or so was spent modifying the steering damper mounting position so full lock was attainable. Outfits are always a “work in progress”. 😜

First night camping at Mila. Good day on the bkes with fine sunny weather and good roads. Did a bit of counting on the road between Orbost and Bendoc.....there are 540 corners on the bitumen. Will count on the dirt next time. We have a nce fire going and thinking about dinner. Lunch stop earlier in the day at Bendoc

I hope that you were concentrating on the road while counting those corners. Those outfits take a bit of work to ride by the looks of them.

Nice bit of snow on the ranges on the way to Dalgety. Very windy up on the ridge line. This bridge over the Snowy river is at Dalgety NSW. Going south, the only crossings of the Snowy in Vic are at Orbost and McKillops bridge.......Vic is divided by a river with just two crossings. 😳 Tuesday..... We have travelled from Mila to Captains Flat and taken all day to cover just 300km. Approximately 80% has been on the dirt today zigzagging all over the country and it was a fantastic day. We have seen snow, wind turbines, a big bridge, lots of little bridges, lots of dust and lots of smiles from Doony. 😀 Heading to the Kangaroo Valley tomorrow.......saw plenty of them today.

What a way to start the day.... great ride on the dirt from Captains Flat to Braidwood. At one point you pop out of the confines of the bush and up a rise to magnificent views across the valley and farmland......such a contrast. The Braidwood bakery was a must for coffee and a dainiish then we were off to Nowra. 28c in Nowra but dropped to 24 up at the lookout where Doon ordered a cup of tea that took over half hour to get. ☕️🤣 Next was some map studying to find a camp spot for the night. We eventually ended up in the Belanglo forest. A few gruesome stories were told over an ale or two. The boys cooked up a lovely mixed grill and after a few more stories it was off to bed......no fires in the forest and it was too bloody cold to sit around any longer.

Thursday.....breakfast and on the road to Wombeyan Caves. Zig-zagged accross the Hume freeway and onto Wombeyan road......wow 😝👍🏍 what a great road. About 80km of wombeyan road is much like the 8km of track from the helipad down to Talbotville.......only much more extreme in height, condition and beauty. Loved every metre of it. The pics will not do it justice and I can only say “if you have any sense of adventure in you, then don’t miss out on this road”. On the other side of the Wombeyan Caves, once you have climbed the narrow twisting bitumen section the gravel road is like the best gravel highwayou can imagine with 100kph drifts on the long sweeping corners just begging you for more and more throttle. We were intending to go to Abercrombie Caves for the night but despite the massive cost we opted for a night at the Crookwell caravan park at $9.00 per head. Top class amenities if you are in the area. Fuelled the bikes, lubed the chains (bugger, never thought I would ever have another bike with a chain after 6 with shafts) set up camp and did the washing. We then went shopping to stock up for the next few days as there is nothing at O’Conell and we are going bush after that. Doon was excited about cooking a roast or something in the fantastic camp kitchen but after seeing the prices at the IGA we opted for the pub.....tough choice but had to happen.
The tunnel in the rock was interesting and the rock formation that I did not get a pic of on the other side......well, you will just have to go look for yourselves.
Stunning views that look heaps better in the real
.
Great fire in the camp kitchen with wood suppied.......as you would expect for $9.00 🤣🔥👍
Friday we have planned about 200km of back roads from Crookwell to O’Conell, where Chopper will be meeting us.
9:07 pm and I can hear snoring across the way from PG and possibly Doon and my fingers are getting cold so I wil bugger off..... 💤

Sunday morning.......straight after church, we left O’Conell and took the back roads throgh Tarana following the rail line. Worked our way up to Capatee and on to our campsite at Dunn’s Swamp in the Woolami National Park. Whilst on the Bathurst Lithgow main road for all of 800 metres that was necessary to go from this back road to that back road, Doony managed to get aquainted with the highway patrol...🚓 it seems that traveling in the right hand lane at 55kph on a main highway deserves a breath test.....🍷🤣
Dunn’s Swamp. Great camping spot with firewood supplied.
We were up early Monday morning after a warm nights sleep.....well it was early for me anyway. The plan was was to attack the Bicentenial National Trail and up over the Barrington Tops Forest road to Gloucester........fantastic day riding.....at least till it got a little damp going down into Gloucester. ☔️
Gate at State Park
Superb views down the valley.
A few more pics to add tonight maybe. Doony is trying to plan tomorrows route to take us away from the rain......something about “can’t see, can’t see, can’t fxzing see” 🤓
